Three
Landscapes (1988) and Harbors
of Light (1991) are two of the three works written
on commission for the Haslop/Sanders Duo by Tania Gabrielle
French. Composed at the end of her two year residency in London
following graduation from Amherst College,
Three Landscapes illuminates favorite walks taken on
Hampstead Heath, the wildest of London's scenic and venerated
open spaces. While the same pastoral and intelligently winsome
writing style can also be found in parts of
Harbors of Light, there is within the scope of
this later work a depth of expression which brings a new dimension
into the repertoire for this combination of instruments.
